Linda peacefully passed away in her sleep in the early hours of Wednesday September 9, 2026 at the age of 76.
Linda was born on November 16, 1949 to her parents: Ida and Louis Fontaine.
Linda is survived by her daughters: Carol (Vern), Evelyn (Kurt), Wanda (Deam); her grandchildren: Linda, Mitchell, Nicholas, Lauren, Kerrie (Wes), Megan (Jaye), Rhonda (Josh), Marissa (Justin), Aaron, and Alyssa (Dakota). She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Isis (David), Rylan, Nikki (Brayden), Mason, Trayce, Kennon, Ella Mae, Joshua Jr, Oliver, Jasper, Hayes, Theodore, Ensley, Savannah, Raynen and Nolan.
She is also survived by her siblings: Doris, Lillian, Patsy, Glenn (Glenda), Larry (Gloria) and Milli; her in-laws: John, Mildred, Della (Joshua), Earl, Keith (Val), Debbie, Darlene, Sheila, Corrine, Randy (Bertha), Marlon (Vanessa), Ruben and Tanya (Clarence); as well as aunt Madeline and Uncle Harold, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Linda was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Gerald and her only son Kerry. Also leaving ahead of her were her parents Ida and Louis, siblings: Ronald, Marie, and Marlene, her in-laws Ida and Alex, Garry, Brenda, and Marlene, nieces Brenda, Michelle, Michelle T and nephews Claude and Sterling as well as many aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Linda was loved dearly by her family and often hosted Sunday dinners, where all were welcome. She loved laughing, singing, dancing and visiting elders. She loved travelling with her husband across Canada and the US. She enjoyed playing bingo and VLTs, often asking family “Odaminoo Nah” inviting them to go with her. She enjoyed listening to country music and gospel, often singing at local wakes to comfort others.
She was a beacon of comfort to family and to many people she met throughout her life. She very seldom said no. When called upon for guidance, she considered it an honor to help with various events, celebrations, wakes, and funerals. Linda was a pillar in the community.
Linda was a very dedicated worker with a strong work ethic. She worked for George M. Guimond Care Centre for many years as the Administrator, in which she networked with other leaders and directors across Manitoba First Nations. She was a trailblazer as the first female elected chief of Sagkeeng First Nation, paving the way for female leadership in the community.
Her work was done here on earth, and she was called home by the Creator. There will be many there to greet her. She is in a good place.

The celebration of Linda’s life will take place at St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, Sagkeeng First Nation.
Wake Services: September 12, 2026 (at 7:00 p.m.) to September 15, 2026.
Funeral Services: September 15, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Final viewing at 1:00 p.m.
Interment: St. Alexander Cemetery
