Gerald John Espersen

Gerald John Espersen
September 29, 1956 - July 1, 2026

Gerald “Gerry” John Espersen, loving husband of Debbie, father to Trevor(Lori) and Amber, and grandfather to Charly, Mia, and Larysa, passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of July 1st, 2026.

Gerry lived a full and interesting life. He first served in the Canadian Army, where he learned many skills that he would use throughout the rest of his life. He later joined his father in the family business, eventually taking it over himself.

Gerry accomplished many things and always enjoyed taking on new challenges. He achieved a long-time goal of earning his SCUBA certification and later obtained his commercial fireworks licence.

When he became a father, Gerry was actively involved in his children's lives. He attended their games, took Trevor to hockey practices, and drove Amber to ringette. When Trevor joined Beavers, Gerry volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader for many years. He also enjoyed attending Amber's gymnastics events.

Volunteering was always one of Gerry's passions. Later in life, he worked with Special Olympics, where he especially enjoyed snowshoeing, and he also loved working with cameras and computer graphics for his church.

Gerry was an avid socializer who greatly enjoyed coaching youth bowling and playing darts at the Legion. However, some of his most cherished memories were those made while camping. He was thrilled when he and Debbie were able to take their children to family camp, and later he had the opportunity to share those same experiences with their grandchildren. For the rest of his life, Gerry loved talking to anyone who would listen about their camping spot for the upcoming summer and all the adventures and experiences they looked forward to sharing.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Espersen (son), Amber Woods (daughter), Charly Woods (granddaughter), Mia Woods (granddaughter), Ric Fecteau (brother-in-law), and Kory Fecteau (niece).

A funeral service will be held at 725 Lagimodiere Boulevard, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10:30 am. Officiating will be Pastor Trevor Freake.

For those wishing to honour Gerry's memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Build the Future.
