Calogero Alaimo

Calogero Alaimo
June 3, 1933 - August 7, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Calogero Alaimo of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 7, 2026, at the age of 93.

He was born June 3, 1933, in Racalmuto, Sicily.  He and his family moved to Canada in 1967, settling in Winnipeg.  Calogero worked as a bricklayer with Kornoski and Keller, Ernie Keller Contractors.  He cherished the simple pleasures in life, from making homemade wine to spending countless hours in his garden, lovingly tending his tomato crop.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Francesca; his son and daughter; his sister-in-law, Nicoletta Sardo of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law Eduardo Rizzo (Enza), and Salvatore Rizzo (Pilar); sisters-in-law Onofria Rizzo and Rosa Salviroli (all of Europe); and many nieces, nephews and family in Winnipeg and Europe.

He was predeceased by his parents Angelo and Annunziata Alaimo, his infant daughter Nunziata, his sisters Maria, Angelina, Salvatrice, and Jessa, his parents-in-law Angelo and Filomena Rizzo, and brothers-in-law Giovanni Sardo, Giuseppe Rizzo and Ignazio Rizzo.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robin Sen, the staff at the Community Nursing Clinic (Leila Avenue), Dr. Borrett and the amazing staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for the compassion, kindness and care they provided.

A private funeral service for immediate family has already taken place.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Calogero’s memory to a charity of your choice.

His family and friends will deeply miss him.  Caro papa riposa in pace.
