Stewart Bird (SLIM)

January 19, 1952 - December 14, 2025

Peacefully at the Pine Falls Hospital with his wife and sister by his side, we announce the passing of our beloved Stuart Bird of Black River First Nation, Manitoba.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wilma, children Merlin (Georgina), Trevor, Tanya (Dylan), Percy, Hallie, and Isaac. His 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His siblings are Harold (Gladys), Harriet (Cameron), Darlene (Russell), Nelson (Suzanne), Herman (Rhonda), Elsie (Morgan), Susan, Elaine, Cheryl (Tom), Amy (Calvin), and Patricia (Edwin), as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Slim has been reunited with his son Ryan Todd Bird, his parents Joseph and Virginia Bird, his in-laws Andrew and Harriet Thickfoot, his siblings Florence, Alfred, Bouchard and Kimberly, his aunts Joyce Courchene and Flora Jane Houston, his uncles William George Mann and Stewart Bird, his nephews Curtis Bird, Waylon Bird and Kimbii Daniels, brothers-in-law Gerry Frechette, Walter Abraham, Lawrence Thickfoot, Stanley Thickfoot, William Thickfoot, sisters-in law, Mary Rose Abraham, Helen Courchene, and Clara McDonald.

Wake Services will start on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at his residence, Hse 13, Mayaa Rd., Black River First Nation. The funeral will take place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the community hall, with Reverends Richard and Nancy Bruyere officiating. Viewing will also take place at the community hall starting at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers are Merlin Bird (son), Mercedes Bird and Tyrell Bird (grandchildren) Roland Courchene, Tyler Courchene and Bryton Papineau (nephews).

The family would like to thank the nurses Melissa, Melanie, Debbie, Rebekah, Randi, and Maureen, as well as the health care aides, Donna and Rose, for the care and compassion shown to our dad.
