Pauline Wowchuk (née ARSENIE)
Pauline Wowchuk
(née Arsenie)
April 23, 1928 - May 1, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (Baba), and great-grandmother, Pauline, on May 1, 2025, at the age of 97, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born at home in Brooksby, Saskatchewan, to Michael and Anne Arsenie, Pauline was the second oldest of five siblings: Steve, Bill, Lena, and Orest. She attended school in Maryville and worked on the family farm, where she developed the strong work ethic and resilience that would define her life.
In 1946, she married the love of her life, Peter Wowchuk. Together, they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect, raising six children: Shirley (Ralph) Norek, Darlene (Larry) Cox, Pat (Wayne) Hawthorn, Connie (Rolf) Baumbusch, Terry (Donna) Wowchuk, and David Wowchuk. Their journey took them from Whittome, SK, to Saskatoon, and eventually to Winnipeg, as Peter pursued his career with Canadian National Railways.
Pauline was the heart of our family, known for her nurturing spirit, culinary talents, and deep faith. Her home was always filled with the aroma of delicious cooking and the warmth of her hospitality. Her perogies and pies were legendary, and no one ever left hungry. She was a devoted member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, serving for 60 years with the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada and as a proud member of the Altar Guild. A talented seamstress, she spent countless hours sewing clothes for herself and her children. She also found joy in gardening, listening to Ukrainian music, and celebrating family traditions - especially Christmas and Easter.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her six children, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and all who knew her. Pauline’s life was a blessing; her memory, a treasure. She is now reunited with her beloved Peter and her siblings who predeceased her.
A funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to St. Michael’s Church Building Fund or Holy Family Nursing Home.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Holy Family Nursing Home for their compassionate care. Vichnaya Pam’yat - Eternal Memory
