Frances Shayna

On March 9, 2025, at 102 years old, Frances Shayna quietly passed away from this life to her heavenly home. Fran found comfort in her faith in Jesus Christ, and it is in this sure and certain hope that we will meet her again.

Mary Frances Shayna (nee Belyea) was born in Medicine Hat, AB on January 25, 1923, to her parents Roy and Emma Belyea. Frances grew up in Herbert ,SK where she received her schooling and graduated from high school. She entered the School of Nursing at the Moose Jaw General Hospital and obtained her R.N. After working in various hospitals in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Frances ventured further east with her daughter Audrey and joined the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, where she worked until her retirement.

We each have valuable and cherished memories of a part of the past 102 years of Frances’s life! Frances was a fighter who survived cancer twice in her life. She was very fond of travelling; her favourite words were “Let’s go!” She was fiercely independent, active and always on the go. Her mind was sharp and clear thinking. She was a caring person who will be missed by those who shared in any part of her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Russell and wife Dorothy Belyea; brother Kenneth Belyea, and her daughter Audrey Shayna. She is survived by her sister Shirley (Medicine Hat); nephew Russell (Jr.) and wife Brenda Belyea (Moose Jaw, SK) and their family.

Thank you to all her helpful friends from both near and far, especially for the past few years, and to the caring staff at Fred Douglas Lodge in these final few months.

Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
